Three-alarm fire damages block of stores on Blue Hill Avenue

The Boston Fire Department reports a three-alarm fire on Friday morning at 600 Blue Hill Ave., at Columbia Road, did an estimated $500,000 in damage to stores, including the Fernandez Brothers Grocery.

The three-story building has two floors of apartments above stores, but nobody was living in the apartments, the department says, adding there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire, reported around 5:30 a.m., is under investigation.
