A Dorchester man was charged with stabbing his elderly downstairs neighbor to death early this morning.

Tu Nguyen, 28, of 45 Codman Hill Ave. was ordered to Bridgewater for 20 days of observation at his arraignment in Dorchester District Court, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Police officers responding to a 911 call from a young girl staying with Mary Miller, 72, around 1:45 a.m. found Miller's body. Miller was pronounced dead at the scene, the DA's office says.

The girl was taken to Boston Medical Center for observation, but was later released, the DA's office reports.
