Boston Police arrested a 19 year-old Dorchester man on armed robbery charges last evening in Savin Hill after the suspect allegedly accosted two people at gunpoint in back-to-back incidents around 5 p.m. Neither victim was hurt in the stick-up attempts and the weapon turned out to be a pellet gun.

The incidents happened moments apart just around 5 p.m. The first took place near the corner of Sydney and Sudan streets. The second victim was accosted at Romsey and Sudan Streets. The suspect demanded phones from the victims, but did not succeed in either attempt. He fled the scene and was apprehended a few minutes later by C-11 police.

“[The suspect] took off jacket and hid it as he attempted to get away,” said Boston Police Capt. Richard Sexton, commander of the Area C-11 division. “Officers were in the area, heard the call and they spotted him near Dot Ave. He was in short-sleeves in 30 degree weather, so it was pretty obvious.”

Police made the arrest on Sudan Street and both victims positively identified the 19 year-old Westville St. resident as the assailant.

The pair of incidents come after a relative lull in street robberies in Savin Hill, whoch had experienced a rash of stick-ups late last year. Extra police patrols and more vigilance from crime watch groups and everyday citizens has helped, Sexton says.
