Snow emergency in effect, no school in Boston

A Snow Emergency and parking ban for the City of Boston will go into effect at 7p.m., according to Mayor Menino's office. The City of Boston Storm Center has been activated: call the Mayor’s 24-Hour Hotline at 617-635-4500.

Boston Public Schools will be closed on Thursday.

There is also no parking on DCR roads beginning at 7 p.m. The state's Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is urging motorists to avoid Morrissey Boulevard between Freeport Street and Mt. Vernon Street (UMass/Boston) around the 5 a.m. high tide on Thursday morning. Flooding and lane closures are expected due to the forecasted snow storm. The same stretch of the boulevard was also closed last Friday morning during the last snow storm.

State roads where cars will be towed include:
Columbia Road, Gallivan Boulevard, Morton Street, Truman Parkway, and William J. Day Boulevard.

Capt. Sexton, commander of the Area C-11 Boston Police district, issued an advisory yesterday asking residents to voluntarily move their cars on specific streets once the snow emergency is declared.
