Two Dorchester men were arraigned today on charges they tried to murder a member of a rival Cape Verdean faction on Albion Street in Roxbury last night.

Vincent Davis and Jesse DeBurgo, both 18, were arraigned today in Roxbury District Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and unlawful possession of a firearm, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. Davis was ordered held in lieu of $750,000 bail; DeBurgo had bail set at $250,000, but had his bail on an unrelated case in Norfolk County revoked, which means he would stay in jail even if he raised his new bail.

Prosecutors say the two men drove up to 10 Albion St. around 9:30 p.m. yesterday and that Davis got out with a gun and opened fire on the 30-year-old victim, getting him in the head, should and thigh. Prosecutors say that after surgery, the man is in serious but stable condition following the incident in "a longstanding rivalry between small factions in the Cape Verdean communities of Roxbury and Dorchester."

Prosecutors charge Davis got back in the car and DeBurgo drove them away.

Police quickly arrived and tracked the car to Fuller Street, where both men were arrested - Davis with the gun still in his hand - shortly before 10 p.m., the DA's office says, adding DeBurgo was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and registration.

"This is the result when police, prosecutors and community members work as one," DA Dan Conley said in a statement. "A rapid and aggressive response by Boston Police, close cooperation and assistance from Suffolk prosecutors, and outstanding witness participation made it possible to arrest these defendants and convince a judge to set high bail. We can't undo last night’s awful violence, but we can do everything in our power to hold the offenders accountable."

The two men are scheduled for a court appearance on Jan. 6.
