President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will come to Dorchester on Monday, March 30 to dedicate the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate, which opens to the public on March 31.
“We are truly honored to welcome President Obama, the First Lady and Vice President Biden for our dedication ceremony,” said Victoria Reggie Kennedy, President of the Board of Directors and the widow of Senator Kennedy.
“The Institute will give people from all walks of life a real, hands-on feel for the vital role the Senate plays in our democracy. Combining interactive technology with a full-scale representation of the U.S. Senate Chamber, the Institute will educate and inspire the next generation of citizens and leaders. It is a distinct privilege to welcome the President, First Lady and Vice President to mark this historic occasion.”
Following the formal dedication program, there will be a ceremony to officially open the Institute's representation of the U.S. Senate Chamber. The ceremony will bring together current and former US Senators with students from across the country as a collective commitment is made to continued service and leadership.
