City schools and community centers are serving free meals this summer to any Boston child or teen under 18. The program, which started Monday, will run through August 29 at more than 120 locations, including 43 in Dorchester and Mattapan. Some of the locations include the Leahy-Holloran Community Center in Neponset, Bird Street Youth Center on Columbia Road, the Ryan Playground in Mattapan and the Dorchester House in Fields Corner. Most of the locations serve both breakfast and lunch.

Families are invited to join BPS at the Summer Food Service Program Kickoff Celebration on Thursday, July 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the BCYF Thomas M. Menino Community Center, 125 Brookway Road in Roslindale.

“We recognize that we need to provide services resources for Boston children not just during the school year, but year-round," said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. "Providing healthy meals for our children and teenagers throughout the summer months ensures that we are continuing to provide a strong foundation for learning and growth.”

The project— now in its 19th year— is supported by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Education and sponsored by the USDA, the City of Boston, Project Bread and the Boston Public Schools.
