Police swarm Roseclair Street, arrest man they say dragged cop down Columbia Road

Several police responded to the incident and closed a portion of Roseclair Street to traffic early Sunday afternoon.

The Boston Police Department reports a Weymouth man spotted buying heroin off Columbia Road in Dorchester around noon Sunday stopped for pursuing police, then drove away - dragging an officer down the street.

The officer was taken to Boston Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

Police say the incident began around noon at Devon Street and Vaughn Avenue, when undercover drug officers observed an individual, operating a silver motor vehicle, pull over and buy illegal narcotics.

A marked cruised pulled Eric Nelson's silver Nissan over on Columbia Road, police say. "However, as officers were engaging the operator, the operator of the car gunned his engine and sped off."

Police say officers soon spotted Nelson's car again near 37 Mt. Vernon St. Police say: "Once on scene, officers learned that the suspect was seen running into the above mentioned address. A search of the location enabled officers to locate an individual who matched the description of the suspect. Upon seeing the officers, the suspect stated, 'You got me.' "

Robert Miczke told the Reporter he saw a silver car speeding north on Dorchester Ave. before stopping in the middle of the street and turning a hard left, heading the wrong direction down Roseclair Street. A silver Nissan was left in the Rosecalir Street-facing driveway of 37-39 Mt. Vernon Street, next to 86 Roseclair Street.

Miczke said several cruisers arrived and entered 37-39 Mt. Vernon Street and came out with a well-dressed man about six feet tall in their custody. Miczke recognized the arrested man as the one driving the silver Nissan.

Roseclair Street between Dot Ave. and Mahew Street was closed off to traffic for about 20 minutes early Sunday afternoon while police investigated the scene and towed the vehicle, which had been damaged on its passenger side.

Nelson, 46, was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (the car), assault and battery on a police officer, failure to submit to a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of heroin.
