State Police: Wrong-way driver on Expressway hits three vehicles and dies

State Police report a man driving south on the northbound side of the Southeast Expressway in Dorchester around 2:30 a.m. died after crashing into a bus, a pickup and a sedan, injuring two of the drivers, but not fatally.

State Police say:

"The crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2009 Chevy Tahoe was being operated southbound on the northbound side when, just after the Columbia Road exit, it struck two northbound vehicles, a Boston Logan Express Bus and a 2021 Dodge RAM 1500 pickup truck.

"Subsequently, the wrong-way SUV struck a third vehicle, a 2018 Hyundai Sonata.

"The Tahoe came to rest in the two rightmost northbound lanes. Its operator, identified as Richard Crawford, 31, of Everett, was determined to be dead at the scene.

"Two of the other operators were transported by Boston EMS to Boston Medical Center with minor injuries: a 54-year-old Hyde Park man who was driving the Logan Express bus; and a 29-year-old Chelsea resident who was driving the Sonata."

The pickup driver was not injured, State Police say, adding that the crash remains under investigation.
