Two women stabbed to death on Taft Street

The Boston Police Department reports that two women were stabbed at 26 Taft St. in Dorchester shortly before 12:25 p.m. on Sunday.

One woman was declared dead at the scene; the second was taken to the hospital, where she died. Two children were removed from the scene and taken to a local hospital for observation.

Marcus Chavis, 34, of Dorchester, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and one count of animal cruelty, police say.

Taft Street is where former Mayor Martin Walsh grew up.
