Suspected burglar busted by alert neighbors in Neponset

A pair of observant Neponset residents helped District C-11 patrolmen catch a suspected burglar who was allegedly seen casing houses on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers received a 911 call from a witness who said he had observed a young teenager ringing doorbells and looking through windows on Sedalia Road around noontime on Tuesday. Approximately 90 minutes later, a 911 caller reported that a man matching that description was inspecting houses on Westglow Street and entered a fenced-in backyard at 35 Westglow St.

After a minute, the suspect left the yard and made his way up Garner Road towards Ashmont Street, followed by the second 911 caller who kept police updated on the suspect's location.

When confronted by detectives on Adams Street, the suspect said he had gone behind the house to relieve himself, but officers inspected the Westglow property and found damage to the back door which the homeowner confirmed had been recently installed.

Officers arrested the 15-year-old for attempted breaking and entering and tresspassing and made attempts to contact the suspect's mother by referring to previous police reports. Captain Richard Sexton, commander at Area C-11 in Dorchester, credited alert neighbors and patrolmen for making the "good arrest." The name of the suspect has been withheld because he is a juvenile.
