(UPDATED 2:30 PM) The stretch of Morrissey Boulevard between UMass-Boston and Freeport Street has reopened after both sides of the road were closed.
Department of Conservation and Recreation spokeswoman Wendy Fox attributed the closure to the confluence of wind, snow, high tide and the full moon.
The closure came as residents battled a storm that was expected to dump up to ten inches of snow on the ground.
A city snow emergency and parking ban went into effect at 9 p.m. Thursday night, and schools are closed Friday. The snow emergency and parking ban will be lifted at 4 p.m., city officials said in an email.
