The Boston Police Department reports 18-year-old Lloyd Payne was found shot at 34 Mallon Rd. around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Neighbors said Payne was driving a green sedan he had recently purchased when at least one shot was fired at the vehicle, which then rolled into a fenced off parking area on Bullard Street.

Payne did not have a criminal record and according to residents, no ties to local gangs. The seemingly random nature of this shooting has many residents on edge.

"[The Paynes] are a good family, he wasn't a bad kid," said one Bowdoin Street resident who requested anonymity before speaking. "But this is the city we're living in. With winter coming around, everyone wearing big coats, everyone is going to be packing."

He was taken to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

He is Dorchester's 28th murder victim this year and the 61st citywide. At this time last year, 42 people had been murdered citywide.
