Police say housebreak suspects captured after chase halfway across city

The Boston Police Department report arresting three men after a Dorchester homeowner and his burglar alarm interrupted their plans for robbing his house early Monday.

Police say one of the three rang the doorbell at 191 Callender St. around 12:30 a.m. and asked for "Billy," while one of his accomplices was in the back, attempting to gain entry there, which set off his alarm, causing the three to flee.

The homeowner called 911 and when officers arrived, they spotted a black Malibu leaving at a high rate of speed. Police say the car sped through several traffic signals and would not pull over for officers as the driver headed through Mattapan and into Hyde Park. Police finally blocked the car in on Austin Street, a one-way road near the George Wright Golf Course.

Sheridan Cowell, 22, of Hyde Park, was charged with attempted breaking and entering in the nighttime, driving to endanger, failure to stop for police and using a motor vehicle without authority. Adonis Graham, 19, of Hyde Park, was charged with attempted breaking and entering. Charlton Barrett, 22, of Mattapan was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition.
