The Boston Fire Department reports "a discarded cigarette" on a porch started a fire at 97 Welles Ave. Saturday night that left 13 people homeless and left one firefighter with a knee injury.

The fire, reported around 8:15 p.m., caused an estimated $150,000 in damage, the department reports. It started on a second-floor porch and quickly climbed into the third floor.
