Amidst news of Councillor Sam Yoon's growing bank account - at $158,158 as of Tuesday - at least one new potential candidate is rubbing his chin in contemplation - and the guy's OFD. And over in District 4, Councillor Charles Yancey also picked up a challenger.

"I'm keeping my options open," said Dorchester's Doug Hurley. "A run for at-Large is something I'm considering, but some things would have to happen."

Hurley hinted that it may have something to do with how many at-Large seats are left open by mayoral candidates, and who decides to run for them.

"I'll analyze the field, who's in and who's out," he said. "I'd have to look at some numbers and talk to some friends and family."

Hurley's worked on a few campaigns in the past. He has been closely allied with state Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry and City Councillor Michael Flaherty and worked in the State House as a legislative aide to Jim Brett in the mid-90s.

"I'm kinda familiar with how Dorchester's run," said Hurley, who grew up in St. Mark's Parish and graduated from BC High back in '90.

"I think it goes back to the motto of BC High that has been instilled in me, 'Being a man for others,'" he said when asked why he aspired to office. "I come from a very diverse parish, probably the most diverse in the city. It represents every walk of life. It's a changing city, to be part of that change would be great."

Harrison to run in District 4

More than mulling the idea, Rev. Shaun Harrison told the Reporter he's all in for a run against District 4's Councillor Charles Yancey.

"I'll throw my hat in," said Harrison Monday night. "And if I don't win I'm gonna save up for a run against Willie Mae Allen in 2010. I'm excited about it. I feel like I have the pulse of the city, especially among the kids."

For seven years Harrison ran Youth in Crisis Ministries, before turning it over to Anthony Robinson about a year ago. Now Harrison takes referrals from Dorchester District Court to help out troubled youth in a program he started called Operation Project Go.

Days he works at South Boston High as support staff, and evenings he rolls into Dorchester to work at the Bird Street Community Center as a Case Manager. Harrison is also an associate minister at the Charles A.M.E. Church in Roxbury, Rev. Gregory Groover's house.
