Another potential candidate has bowed out of the District 3 race: Savin Hill’s Deirdre McDermott Habershaw said Monday night she would not be running to replace City Councillor Maureen Feeney, who isn’t seeking another term.

Habershaw, a regional planner with the city of Boston, said she had more than the necessary 200 signatures to make the ballot. But family concerns played a role in her decision to pass on a City Council run, she said.

“This campaign is going to be a 24/7 uphill battle for everybody in the race,” said Habershaw, the mother of an 18-month-old. “It’s just too much to ask of my family.”

She is a former Feeney aide and former president of the Columbia Savin Hill Civic Association.

Her departure – and that of fellow Savin Hill resident Michael Christopher, who said he preferred to focus working in Gov. Deval Patrick's administration – leaves some Dorchester progressives still searching for a candidate to back.

Tuesday, May 24, is the last day for candidates to submit signatures to the Boston Elections Department in order to make the ballot.
