May comes in like a metal-plated lion on District Three

The month of May has not been a good one so far for District B-3. Bullets have been flying through the air like soccer balls and the officers needed a pooper-scooper to pick up all the ballistics evidence found in the street. Since May 1, three people have been shot, there was a homicide, a pregnant woman was beaten with a hammer by her boyfriend. There was an armed robbery committed on Mother’s Day, six guns were recovered and a 29 year-old male succumbed to injuries after being struck by a motor vehicle while riding on a motor scooter.

At 7:59 p.m., on Mother’s Day, an on duty officer on-sited an armed robbery at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Walk Hill Street. Two masked men ran from the Step N’ Out Convenience Store and fled in a green mini van.

In an attempt to make good their escape, the suspects rammed into the officer’s motor vehicle. At this point, the officer discharged his firearm. The suspect suddenly realized that this officer was trained to serve and protect. The suspect fled the scene. He left the area at such a high rate of speed, that instead of staying on the main street he turned into a dead end street trying to elude the police. He crashed into a boulder and landed in a wildlife protected area.

Hearing the police siren the suspect ran into the woods dropping money and covered himself under a thorny bush. He was discovered when the officers observed two gloves stuck in the thorns of the bush. His 18 year-old companion was captured at the Mattahunt School; like the church, classes had been canceled for the day. The officers seized a firearm, sneakers, masks and $256.63.

May 11, 9:15 a.m.

Officers responded to a radio call for a residential alarm on Charlotte Street. Upon officers’ arrival, they noticed the front door open and a key in the lock. They heard voices on the second floor and went upstairs to check but the voices they heard were coming from a television set. As the officer entered the room, he noticed two shotguns in plain view. While still on the scene, the owner of the apartment arrived. The shotguns were seized because the owner did not have a FID card nor did he have a license to carry.

May 12, 4:00 p.m.

As the results of a search warrant executed on Morton Street, the B-3 Drug Control Unit recovered three firearms. A black charter arms .38 caliber revolver was found in a Timberland backpack; a black M-11 and a 9mm with obliterated serial numbers was found in an Eddie Bauer backpack in the closet and a .45 highpoint semi-automatic was also found in a backpack in a closet. Also recovered was marijuana in an addidas sneaker on a shelf in the closet. The suspect, an 18-year old male was arrested.

May 13, 10:41 p.m.

Two males were shot at 50 Evans St.: a 20-year old male was shot in the abdomen and a 22-year-old male was shot in the right knee. Officers responded to Boston Medical Center and spoke with the 22 year-old victim who stated that he was drinking a 40 ounce with his boys when he heard five shots and saw sparks from the bullets striking the fence. He further stated that he jumped over the fence in an attempt to hide from the shooter and was shot in the knee. Both 48 and 56 Evans St. sustained ballistic damage.

On May 14, at 7:01 a.m., officers responded to 1590 Blue Hill Ave. for shots fired. Upon arrival they were met by a security guard who informed them that while he was taking the guard dogs inside he heard a noise which he believed to be a shot. Upon entering the building he noticed a windowpane with a hole in it. The security guard looked out of the window and saw a group of kids getting on a school bus.
