The Boston Bulldogs played two of their most exciting games of their inaugural season last weekend. On Friday, the citywide lacrosse team traveled northwest on Route 30 and faced off for the first time against the well-coached, veteran Wildcats of Weston High School.

Weston’s skill and experience were clear from the outset, as the Wildcats jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. Ryan Johnston fired home the Bulldogs lone score of the first quarter. Boston then climbed back into the game with two hard charging goals from senior midfielder Jon Spillane and trailed 4-3 at halftime. In the 3rd quarter, Weston’s skilled passing attack began to pay big dividends and the Wildcats increased their lead to 9-3. But the Bulldogs refused to quit and mounted an exciting, inspired rally in the 4th quarter. Led by the solid fore checking of attack man Connor Dougherty and the tremendous ball control of Spillane, (3 more goals), Boston cut the lead to 9-6. But our Bulldogs ran out of time and Weston prevailed by a final score of 10-6.

On Saturday, Boston returned home to Reservation Road Field in Hyde Park to face off with their cross-town rival, the Charlestown Club.

The body checking was ferocious from the outset and neither team was able to take any clear control. Two first half Boston goals were scored by Kevin Verity and Spillane. The Bulldog defensive end was well guarded by goalie Derek Taylor. The solid defensemen in front for Boston were Kevin Gribaudo, Brendan Carr, Brian Carr, Raffi Yessayan, Liam Donovan and Andrew Morris. At halftime, the score was tied at 2-2.

The Boston High School Lacrosse Club was formed this year through the efforts of Dorchester Youth Lacrosse and Parkway Youth Lacrosse. The Bulldogs field a squad of more than 2 dozen players from 6 Boston high schools and 6 neighborhoods.
