Are you a parent looking for a last-minute solution for the summer break blues? EduSports Inc. may be the perfect solution for your boy or girl.
Based out of the Mildred Avenue School in Mattapan, the EduSports summer enrichment sports camp provides boys and girls, ages 5-16, with a balanced program of academics and sports. EduSports helps its participants grow academically, socially, and physically through its program, which is broken up into six individual sessions between July 6 and August 13.
Over the course of their day, which starts at 8:30 a.m. with breakfast, campers will attend three academic classes and one elective class. The academic classes, focused on mathematics, writing and reading comprehension— plus upper-classman electives like photography and music— are taught by professional volunteers. They tutor the campers through their weaknesses and into the upcoming school year, providing exposure and practice to the new material that awaits them in September. Each camper will work with the same tutor throughout the entire session that he or she is attending.
After lunch, the hard work pays off with an afternoon of sports. EduSports focuses on baseball, basketball, tennis, and soccer. Fridays include field trips to roller-skating rinks, bowling alleys, swimming pools, and more.
The enrichment program is a “unique camp where kids can get ahead academically, have good camaraderie fun, and interact with friends and family members,” says executive director, Marco Cenafils. “There is a good balance of sports and academics, one I don’t think you can find anywhere else.”
The non-profit organization charges a $50 non-refundable process fee, $125 for registration, and $90 per session attended by the camper. They require that each camper attend a minimum of four sessions. To register, download the application at edusportsites.org.
