Several Dorchesterites - both prominent locals and electeds - are gathering together under the "Dot for Capuano" banner. Congressman Michael Capuano is one of four Democrats running to for the late Sen. Edward Kennedy's vacant seat.

They include state Rep. Marty Walsh, who had supported U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch before he dropped out of the race, state Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry, state Rep. Marie St. Fleur, Boston City Councillor Maureen Feeney, Codman Square Health Center co-founder Bill Walczak, and well-known human services advocate and lobbyist Judy Meredith, among others. Boston City Councillor At-Large Stephen Murphy (who was born in Dorchester and lives in Hyde Park) is also on board.

They're getting together next week at the Carruth Building by Ashmont Station, according to an email blasted out this afternoon. A meeting has been scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 8.

Feeney's endorsement of Capuano probably didn't go over well with state Senate President Therese Murray, a top backer of Attorney General Martha Coakley. Both Feeney and Murray, who was born in Dorchester, are close. And both were avid backers of Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency.

"He stood with Ted Kennedy against the war in Iraq, and voted against the Patriot Act," the "Dot for Capuano" group wrote in their afternoon email. "He strongly advocates a public option in healthcare reform. He led the fight in Washington for ethics reform. He supports equal marriage, a woman’s right to choose, and tax cuts for the middle class. Even closer to home, he has been a tireless advocate for the Carney Hospital and all of our neighborhood health centers. We feel that he is by far the best candidate in this race."

Capuano's district includes roughly half of Dorchester, with the other half in Lynch's district.
