Oscar-winner Ben Affleck seems to like filming in Dorchester. The Cambridge native is in town for his sophomore writing and directing project “The Town,” based on Boston author Chuck Hogan’s award-winning bestseller “The Prince of Thieves.”

The movie stars Affleck, Jon Hamm, leading man on TV’s “Mad Men,” Oscar-Winner and Kingston resident Chris Cooper, along with “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively, Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner and slew of locally based actors.

The cast and crew shot a scene at Neponset’s Devine Rink on Morrissey Boulevard on Tuesday. “The Town” has previously shot scenes in Charlestown, where most of the book’s action takes place, and in Cambridge. Although the movie’s producers are officially mum about where they are shooting, word is that the film will be using South Boston and Dorchester locations to serve as “stand ins” for Charlestown locations.

“The Town” is produced by Graham King’s GK Films shingle. King won an Oscar for his work with Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed,” which was also filmed in Boston. It’s not just a return to Boston for Affleck but his second time filming in Dorchester.

Many of the scenes for Affleck’s 2007 big-screen adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s “Gone Baby Gone” were filmed in Dorchester including Fields Corner, Semont Road near St. Mark’s Church, and Crescent Avenue near where Lehane grew up.

For “The Town” Affleck won’t be spending all his time behind the camera. He plays a career criminal from Charlestown who falls for the manager of the bank he and his cohort have just robbed.
