Man shot to death on Michigan Avenue

A man was shot to death on Michigan Avenue in Dorchester on Tuesday night.

The shooting took place just after 8 p.m. in the Eire-Ellington section of Dorchester. It is the latest in a series of high-profile acts of violence and gunplay in and around the Erie Street corridor over the last six months.

Dept. Supt. Paul McLaughlin, of the Boston Police Bureau of Investigative Services, said officers responded to the scene at 15 Michigan Ave. at 8:03 p.m. to find the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds.

The name of the deceased has not been released yet by authorities.

“They responded to a ShotSpotter report of multiple rounds at that location,” McLaughlin said. “On arrival they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced on scene. It is a very active investigation.”

District Attorney Kevin Hayden said he couldn’t elaborate on the investigation yet, but asked for cooperation from the public.

“We need the community’s help with any information they can provide,” he said at the scene. “This is an unfortunate incident. One homicide in the city is one too many, plain and simple…What has happened here is another act of completely senseless violence.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 617-343-4470.
