Mayor Wu says a snow emergency will go into effect on Monday at 10p.m. as Boston braces for a winter storm that could dump up to a foot of snow on the city on Tuesday. Boston Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, along with other city facilities, including community centers and libraries.

The mayor said forecasters expect 8-12 inches of snow, which would make it the largest accumulation in two years. She urged motorists to stay off the roads in the city tomorrow.

Parking is banned on marked snow emergency routes, including Dorchester Avenue. Cars will be towed. Discounted parking lots will be open across the city. Go to Boston.gov/snow for a list of locations.

"Tuesday is a great day to work from home," said Jascha Franklin-Hodge, the city's Chief of Streets.
