Dorchester’s beaches scored among the lowest in beach safety over a six-year period, according to a report from the nonprofit Save the Harbor/Save the Bay organization. Tenean Beach stayed near the bottom through the years, with an average score of 81 percent in primary beach safety.

The report is based on water quality data collected during the 2016 beach season from 15 public beaches, according to the statement. Save the Harbor spokesman Bruce Berman noted that last year’s drought conditions affected the data, with the region receiving less than half the rainfall expected during a typical season.

For all that, Tenean Beach may be on an upswing: Berman said in the statement that investments by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority correlate with a decrease in pollution there.
