A city Department of Public Works employee was killed after a single-car crash near the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Columbia Road on Thursday night, police said.

Police responded to the scene around 7:30 p.m. for preliminary reports that a DPW vehicle struck a pole. The driver was found at the site with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Police have not identified the employee and said Friday morning that an investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
