Sonny’s ­– the longtime Adams Corner watering hole that closed abruptly after its sale last month— will be transformed into a new bar and dining spot with a “downtown feel and neighborhood prices,” says David Arrowsmith, one of the two partners who acquired the property at 750 Adams St. on Oct. 26.

Arrowsmith, who owns the Neponset-based Captial Construction, tells the Reporter that the new establishment — not yet named— should be open next spring after an extensive renovation.

“We’ve started demolition already and it will be totally gutted down to the studs,” said Arrowsmith. “We will keep the exterior walls, but it will have brand new frontage with a glass front.”

Arrowsmith and his business partner Martin Davis have contracted with Sousa Design, a Brookline-based architectural firm responsible for designing some of Greater Boston’s trendiest new restaurants, including Stephi’s in Southie and Lincoln, two successful South Boston eateries.

Arrowsmith explained that the Sonny’s location in the heart of Adams Corner makes it ideal for what he and Davis hope to build.

“I love the area and the people,” said Arrowsmith, a native of Ireland’s County Louth who now lives in Milton. His company, Capital Construction, is based on Norwood Street near Neponset Circle and specializes in “red carpet” residential and commercial design and construction. Davis, a South Boston native, has extensive experience in running restaurants.

Arrowsmith envisions the former Sonny’s space as a bar and restaurant that will have a modern look, but offer reasonably priced “American comfort food.”

“We will also have a function room for local events, because that’s something that we heard from neighbors that they want,” said Arrowsmith.

Sonny’s was owned by the Elia family and was a thriving bar and Italian-themed eatery for most of its five decades in business.
