Dorchester’s Anne Bowie was recognized for her volunteer work by Citizens Schools at their annual awards event on June 14. Bowie is the public service manager at WilmerHale, a law firm that hosted 14 seventh and eighth graders from the Browne Middle School in Chelsea for apprenticeships. Each student was paired with their own lawyer, who would teach the students the different terms and prepare them for the mock trial they would have at the end of the 10-week program.
“It’s cool for kids—different from what they see everyday,” said Bowie, who has been volunteering with Citizen Schools for 10 years now. She oversees and manages the program with Citizens Schools.
“I think it’s important for businesses to support kids in the community. I love working with Citizens Schools. I volunteer because Citizens Schools does good work and because of the kids,” said Bowie, who was recognized as a gold level recipient of the President’s Award.
Across the country, 67 Citizen Teachers were recognized at the gold level.
“Our gold and silver level Presidential Service Award Winners are all talented and dedicated volunteers who embody what Citizen Schools mission is all about,” said Citizen Schools CEO Emily McCann.
