GLOBE ENDORSES BARROS AND CONNOLLY: The Globe this morning endorsed community activist John Barros and City Councillor At-Large John Connolly: "Out of a strong field, Barros and Connolly are the two who should emerge from next Tuesday’s preliminary election to carry the discussion forward in the general election campaign." Twenty years ago, the Globe backed Acting Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and Suffolk County Sheriff Robert Rufo. Rufo also received the Herald's endorsement. Last week, the Herald backed Connolly and District Attorney Dan Conley.

GOLAR RICHIE CAMP TOUTS FIRST TV AD: Charlotte Golar Richie’s campaign yesterday released its first television ad. The male narrator in the ad notes she is the “Boston’s only woman candidate,” and points to her experience as a state representative, the city’s housing chief and a senior adviser to Gov. Deval Patrick. The ad features photos of her with Mayor Thomas Menino and President Obama, when he ran into her during a campaign swing and a visit to Charlie’s Sandwich Shoppe in the South End. The ad is the first of two expected to be released this week. The campaign is spending $30,000 to put the first ad on the air. It will be on various channels, including, NECN, Bravo, Lifetime, TNT, USA, VH1, CNN, BET, TLC, and NESN. Golar Richie also announced the support of Rev. Ellis Washington, Rev. Jeffrey Brown, Rev. Liz Walker, Rev. Mark Scott, Rev. Willie Bodrick, Rev. Evan Hines, Rev. Willie James, Rev. Eugene Rivers and Rev. Miniard Culpepper, a former mayoral candidate.

THE DAY AHEAD: Outgoing Mayor Thomas Menino will attend the 10:30 a.m. groundbreaking for the Millennium Tower in Downtown Crossing, likely prompting candidates to get asked if they back the city's decision to offer tax breaks to the project. City Councillor John Connolly heads to Beacon Hill this morning to testify in support of an updated bottle redemption bill. Before he testifies, he plans to hold a 1 p.m. press conference outside the State House with two of his supporters, state Rep. Jay Livingstone and former state Energy and Environmental Secretary Ian Bowles. The Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy meets in Gardner Auditorium at 1 p.m.

BTU COULD ENDORSE AFTER ALL: The Boston Teachers Union gives preliminary backing to City Councillor At-Large Felix Arroyo and District 5 Councillor Rob Consalvo, the Globe reports. That comes after a debate last week and comments from the head of the union, Richard Stutman, who claimed that none of the candidates were likely to receive two-thirds backing of the executive board, the political action committee and the union's membership.
