Bill Walczak, who co-founded the Codman Square Health Center and briefly served as head of Carney Hospital, is taking a job with Shawmut Design and Construction, the company said Wednesday.

A Savin Hill resident, Walczak left Carney in April, after 14 months as its president. He previously served for 36 years at the Codman Square Health Center.

“As a fixture in the Boston community for more than 30 years, Bill’s work to improve the neighborhoods where we live and work every day is well documented, and has been met with glowing accolades,” Tom Goemaat, CEO of Shawmut Design and Construction, said in a statement. “Shawmut has a proud history of community service since our founding in 1982, and we look forward to further building on this tradition as we continue to expand.”

Walczak, who will be taking the title of vice president of community relations, is also the co-founder and president of the Codman Academy Charter Public School, which is located within the community health center he founded. He also founded a statewide organization for nonprofits, dubbed the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network.

Walczak started his new job last week. A release from Shawmut, which is located on Harrison Ave., said Walczak’s duties at the company will include “enhancing Shawmut’s profile within the community, expanding existing client relationships, developing new relationships, and making recommendations on philanthropic endeavors.”

The company also has offices in New York, Providence, New Haven, and Las Vegas.

Shawmut’s clients have included Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston College, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Perkins School for the Blind and TD Garden.
