Boston University awarded academic degrees to 5,863 students in May 2009. Receiving degrees from Dorchester were Pushkar S. Phatak, Master of Science in Investment Management; Alexander K. Westmoreland, Master of Music in Music Education; Sherley Brice, Master of Social Work in Social Work; Ajibade O. Ashaye, Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management.

Mattapan residents who graduated included Claudine M. Johnson, Master of Education in Policy,Planning and Administration; and Johnson Nguyen, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
Dorchester Residents Graduate from the Winsor School
Two Dorchester residents, Jasmine Brathwaite and Ngoc-Tram Vu, were among 62 accomplished young women who graduated on June 3 from the Winsor School in Boston.
Jasmine Brathwaite, daughter of Lisa and Eric Brathwaite, will attend Drexel University. She was a big sister in the school’s SISTERS mentoring program, an admission tour guide, co-captain of the track and field team, and a member of the cross country team. She was also awarded Winsor’s Cross Country Cup.
Ngoc-Tram Vu, daughter of Van Tam Vu and Hung Minh Vu, will attend Syracuse University. She wrote poetry for The Lamp student literary magazine and worked with several area nonprofits in leadership roles, including The Food Project, The City School, the Boston Refugee Youth Enrichment program and the Coalition of Asian Pacific American Youth.
The graduates received their diplomas from Rachel Friis Stettler, director, and Nancy Bader Gardiner, president of the board of trustees. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the W.E.B. DuBois Institute for African and African American Research at Harvard University, was the commencement speaker.
The three schools of the Dorchester Education Complex held graduation this month as the school year comes to an end. The combined number of graduates is 158. Congratulations to all and good luck in the future.
