Sheriff Andrea Cabral is supporting Carlos Henriquez in the Fifth Suffolk race, Henriquez told the Lit Drop Friday.
The endorsement comes as the candidates head into the final stretch of campaigning. The other candidates include high school teacher and former Beacon Hill aide Barry Lawton, former state Rep. Althea Garrison, and frequent candidate Roy Owens.
The primary is Sept. 14. All are Democrats.
Cabral, a Democrat, is also running for re-election. She faces former corrections officer Hassan Smith, who is running as an independent.
Henriquez, who has worked as a City Hall aide and twice mounted unsuccessful runs against City Councillor Chuck Turner, also received the backing of the Boston Globe in an editorial today and the Boston Phoenix yesterday.
Both Henriquez and Lawton have picked up their fair share of endorsements. Lawton has received backing from labor groups, including organizations representing teachers and construction workers.
