The Boston Phoenix's David Bernstein and West Roxbury Patch are reporting that Matt O'Malley will take former City Councillor John Tobin's place on the City Council. Voters went to the polls in West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain, and parts of Roslindale and Mission Hill to pick between O'Malley and local businessman Jim Hennigan.

Tobin stepped down from the job in August to take a post at Northeastern University.

O'Malley is expected to take office soon, in time to take in a hearing on how the City Council should react to City Councillor Chuck Turner's conviction. According to the Jamaica Plain Gazette, both O'Malley and Hennigan called on Turner to resign.
