Mayor Thomas Menino will be honorary grand marshal of the North End Columbus Day parade. City Councillors At-Large Michael Flaherty and Sam Yoon also participate.

MAYOR THOMAS MENINO:

1:30 AM Irish Heritage Festival
Adams Village, Dorchester

Mayor Menino will speak briefly and present a proclamation at this one-day festival that’s filled with Irish entertainment, shopping, food and culture in Massachusetts’ most Irish neighborhood, Adams Corner.

12:40 PM Columbus Day Parade
Start at City Hall

Mayor Menino will be the Honorary Grand Marshal of the parade that’s been organized by the North End Columbus Day Parade Committee since 1946. The parade weaves from Cambridge Street to Court Street to State Street to Atlantic Avenue to Commercial Street to Battery Street to Hanover Street to Cross Street before ending on Endicott Street.

3:15 PM Friends of Christopher Columbus Park – Columbus Day Event

Mayor Menino will help celebrate Columbus Day in the Park with residents and visitors. Music and activities are planned following the conclusion of the parade. The Ray Cavaicchio Orchestra featuring vocalist Sharon Zee and Richie Vita will be playing in the park for the entire party.

6:30 PM National League of Cities Reception for Local Elected Officials on 2009 National Summit on Your City’s Families
Sauciety Restaurant, lobby of Westin Waterfront Hotel

Mayor Menino will be the keynote speaker at the bi-annual conference organized by the NLC’s Youth, Education, and Families Institute. NLC is releasing a new report that highlights Boston’s Food + Fuel Campaign, Youth Options Unlimited, and Boston Schoolyard Initiative.
