Intramural Swim League

After three weeks of competition the Intramural Swim League is enjoying a great season and heading towards the league championship meet. Current standing have the Kat Fish in first place at 3-0 followed by the Dolphins and Sand Sharks at 2-1, Barracudas and Stingrays at 1-2 and the Piranhas at 0-3. There will be two more weeks of dual-meets followed by the League Championship Meet on June 13th when all six teams come together to determine the 2009 champion. Each team has swimmers made up of veterans from the Marr-lin Swim Team, graduates of the Lesson program and general club members trying the sport for the first time. These new swimmers have utilized their once a week team practice time to sharpen all their strokes and help their teams chances in the final meet. New swimmers who have come on strong for their teams include: Barracudas – Conor Dowdall, Luthea Dowdall, Saoirse McTavish, Lenyn Ferreira, Jasmyn Cardoso and Chrismin Charolot; Stingrays – Maggie Young, Ayla Alsebai, Romario Brandao, Aine Curran and Brittney Andrews; Sandsharks – John Joyce, Matthew Joyce, Andrew Sweeney, Derek Dykens, Breon James, Victor Velazquez, Geraldo Puente and Alison Flaherty; Katfish – Sydney Denver, Denise O’Donovan, Audra Garvey, Sachi Vicente and Maeve Collins; Piranhas – Michael Kerr, Allie Murphy, Mark Garside, Caitlyn O’Connor, Romelo Nunez and Justin DePina; and the Dolphins – Lorna Grey, Kianna Barrett, Alannah Corcoran, Catherine Coppinger, Shaheem Aupont, Joyce Meehan and Will Droser. June Program Highlights

The school-year program will end with a bang as the month of June will be peppered with special events in all core program areas. In our Athletics program we will host the Annual Triple Play Olympics on 6/6. The day will include track events, an obstacle course, the championship game from our Intramural Soccer program and a Health Fair with the Neponset Health Center. Preliminary play-offs and the best 2-of-3 championship series for the 10-team Intermediate/Senior Basketball League will take place this month as well with the championship games being held on 6/16, 6/18 and 6/20. Look for registration for the 16-team Safe Summer Streets Basketball League on 6/13 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will be a division for Girls (ages 13-18), Intermediate Boys (ages 13-15) and Senior Boys (ages 15-18). In our Education program we will close out the Homework Help and One-to-One Tutoring programs once school ends while our High School Seniors can look forward to the Annual Outing. In our Social Recreation program we will begin registration for the Summer program (members ages 6 to 12) on 6/1, holding orientation for members invited to take part in Camp Northbound on 6/6 and 6/8, and hosting our Annual Member Recognition Night Dinner on 6/25. Award winners will receive their invitation by mail. In our Aquatic department the Swim Lesson program will wind down in early June. We will also host the championship Meet for the 6-team Intramural Swim League on 6/13 as well as registration for the Summer Swim Team beginning on the same day. At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, we will be holding our Annual pre-Summer Field Day on 6/11, a 3-day Cape House Retreat (6/12 to 6/14) and the Parents Forum on 6/18. In our Arts program our Fine Arts classes will wind down and will be succeeded by Open Art Classes through the end of the month. This also holds for our Music Instruction program which will evolve through the month into drop-in lessons in our new Music Clubhouse. In our Teen program look for a trip to Starland (6/12 (6/6) and the Boys Group Summer Jam (6/19). We will also be working with 100+ teens in an effort to secure summer employment with our collaborating partners. Lastly, at the end of the Month, June 29th to be specific, the Club will kick-off the 20th year of the Safe Summer Streets program. This nationally recognized program extends our operating hours for our teen population until 11:00 p.m. six nights a week. In addition to our Daytime program for members ages 6 to 12, which will also begin on this day, our teen members will have opportunities to take part in a variety of fun activities.
