Annual Women’s Leadership Awards Dinner

On Thursday, May 28th the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester will host over 700 club members and guests at the 17th Annual New England Women’s Leadership Awards Dinner at the World Trade Center. We congratulate the following women who will be recognized at the event: Circle of Giving Award – Corinne Ferguson, Community Philanthropist; Leadership Award – Elaine Ullian, President & CEO, Boston Medical Center; Community Spirit Award – Tiziana Dearing, President, Catholic Charities; Pioneer Award – Tiffany Warren, Chief Diversity Officer, Omnicom Group; Outstanding Dedication Award – Mary Kinsella Scannell, VP of Early Education and Care & School Age Programming, Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester; and Courage Award – Kai Leigh Harriott and Tonya David, Daughter and Mother, Advocates for Forgiveness. The six award winners will be presented their awards by Club members: Taylor Clooney, Danielle French, Kara Shaughnessey, Nisia McCormick, Regina Crawford, Bridget McDonagh and Keila Centeio. Intramural Soccer Program

Week number five of the 4-team co-ed Intramural Soccer program was played last week leaving one more week before the play-off tournament begins. In the opener Inter Milan won their first game of the year, defeating F.C. Barcelona by a score of 4-3. Junior Monteiro (1 goal), Luke Rogers (1 goal), De’Andre Dew-Hollis (1 goal) and Sam Mastrogiacomo (1 goal) led the Inter Milan attack while F.C. Barcelona was led by Devante Teixeira (2 goals) and Samuel Alouidor (1 goal). In the second game Celtic F.C. received their offense from Jabriel Pressley (1 goal) and Isaac Butler (1 goal) helping defeat Manchester United by a score of 2-1. Freddie DePina (1 goal) provided the offense for Manchester United.

The Defensive Players of the Week were Giovanni Campos of F.C. Barcelona and Molly O’Halloran of Celtic F.C. while the Offensive Players of the Week were Sam Mastrogiacomo of Inter Milan and Freddie DePina of Manchester United. Current standings has Celtic F.C. in first place with a record of 5-0, followed by Manchester United at 3-2 and F.C. Barcelona and Inter Milan tied at 1-4. Keystone Club News

The members of the Keystone Club, our teen leadership development group club, have enjoyed a busy schedule of activities, recently taking part in an inter-club Scavenger Hunt, assisting in Boston Shines and holding their Annual Spring Clean-up this past Saturday. Upcoming events include a Car Wash & Yard Sale Fundraiser on June 6, a Retreat on June 27 and the new “Opportunity for Community” event on July 11. On this day Keystone members hope to bring together local residents to support organizations in need. Keystone members will be holding a Blood Drive for the American Red Cross as well as collecting canned goods, books and coin donations for a local family shelter. In the month of August members are hoping to organize other Keystone Clubs from across the state to take part in a state-wide Community Service project.
