With more than 18,000 employees, the City of Boston is one of the largest employers in the state. But on any given day, we have several part-time and full-time positions that need to be filled. The City of Boston strives to hire diverse individuals who are motivated to improve the communities in which they live. And what's the best way to find out about working for the City of Boston? We now have a new easy way to find out about any vacant position from any City department with our new "Career Center" website at www.cityofboston.gov/ohr/careercenter.asp.  

 The Career Center website is a one stop shop where you can find jobs, register and create a profile, and attach a resume and cover letter to submit a complete application. Once you've submitted an application on the website, you'll receive a confirmation that it was received. You're also able to register to get e-mail alerts whenever future positions in your areas of interest become vacant. The website also has information about internships and volunteer opportunities.

The new Career Center website is now ready to help you find a future with the City of Boston. Instead of coming down to City Hall or another City building to check out available positions and fill out applications, the entire process from finding jobs to applying for them is now available online. City staff have spent more than a year designing the site, and I'm pleased to say it has many features that have made it worth the wait.

The City of Boston and Boston Public Schools Career Center allow you to save your application as a draft, search for jobs by keywords, and review any previous Career Center job applications you've submitted. Detailed job descriptions and salary ranges are also available at the Career Center website.

We know that not everyone is a computer wiz and may never have applied for a job online, so we have help available. The City's Human Resources Offices have staff members trained to assist job applicants and the offices have computer terminals for applicants to use. Free computers can also be accessed at many other locations, including all of the 28 Boston Public Library branches and many of the City's Community Centers.
