Gov. Healey, Mayor Michelle Wu, and UMass Boston Chancellor Marcelo Suárez-Orozco joined hundreds of global climate experts, regional leaders, scientists, and academics on March 27 for a ResilientMass Summit at UMass Boston. Building on a 2024 summit hosted by Pope Francis at the Vatican, the Dorchester gathering focused on local goals.
“It was an honor for UMass Boston to host the ResilientMass Summit and be given the opportunity to provide this critical platform for fostering collaboration across sectors to generate real, promising solutions for climate resilience,” said Suárez-Orozco. “By engaging individuals from every corner of our Commonwealth, we can pave the way for a more sustainable and equitable future.”
ResilientMass organized over a dozen panels that brought together diverse experts from the business sector to state lawmakers, medical professionals to Indigenous leaders, academics to local leaders, with expertise spanning a wide range of industries.
The event was sponsored by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and explored measures set forth by the Planetary Call to Action for Climate Change Resilience commitment made by state and local leaders.
