Quincy man is found guilty of murder in first degree on Devon St. in June 2019

A Suffolk County jury on Monday convicted a 35-year-old Quincy man of first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Arnold Woodrum, 59, of Dorchester on Devon St. on in June 2019. Prosecutors say Lalance Smith fired the weapon that killed Woodrum inside his apartment during a robbery attempt. A conspirator – Kiniya Lee, 40 – pleaded guilty to one count of firearm-armed robbery on Feb. 11 and was sentenced to four-six years in state prison. 

Smith was also found guilty of armed robbery and several firearms crimes. He was scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday of this week.

Ricardo Montero, 36, of Dorchester, who was confronted by an off-duty cop as, police allege, he was trying to steal multiple items from the Codman Square CVS last weekend is facing armed robbery charges this week because, police say, he brandished a hammer during the incident, which began on Sunday around 11:30 a.m. inside the Washington Street store.

The off-duty officer disarmed the suspect, who fled the scene, but was caught on nearby Algonquin Street. The items – valued at $553 – were returned.

Boston Police arrested a man who, police say, was carrying a loaded gun while trafficking marijuana in Mattapan Square last Thursday (April 10). According to the police report, officers who were on a drug-surveillance stakeout on Blue Hill Avenue spotted Jaire Bagby, 24, of Mattapan, near Fairway Street around 4:50 p.m. and noted that “the firearm was determined to be a Ruger Police Service Six .357 Magnum with an obliterated serial number and six rounds in the chamber.”

At the arraignment in Dorchester Court, Judge Nicholas Brandt set bail at $7,500. Bagby is next scheduled to appear in court on May 15.

Boston Police responded to American Legion Highway in front of the Brooke Charter School in Mattapan on Monday morning for a fight between two men who had gotten out of their cars around 7:50 a.m. The arriving officers reported that one man used a knife on the other man’s upper arm. The two were still at the scene when police arrived. The knife-wielding suspect also had some injuries, according to Universal Hub.

A 38-year-old Dorchester man was arrested on Monday evening after police say he fired a gun following a fight on Capen Street. Police were called to the scene just before 8 p.m. According to the BPD account of the incident, officers arrested Omar Stephenson after they stopped a vehicle in the area of Stanton Street and “recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle that was later determined to be a Smith & Wesson Revolver with four rounds in the chamber and one spent shell casing.” Stephenson will face charges in Dorchester District Court that include assault with a dangerous weapon and illegal gun possession.
