Just three days after officially launching his campaign for Mayor of Boston, Josh Kraft announced the addition of four advisors to his team, including Senior Campaign Advisor Michael Kineavy, the former chief of policy and planning for the late Mayor Thomas M. Menino.

The other three team members include Ann Chinchilla DeGeorge, Chanda Smart, and Jacquetta Van Zandt – all of Roxbury.

“Assembling a diverse and talented team is going to be critical to the success of our campaign, so I’m thrilled that Chanda, Jacquetta, Ann, and Michael have agreed to join the campaign,” Kraft wrote in a press release Friday afternoon. “We are assembling a team that have deep and meaningful connections in the communities throughout the city and are as good at listening as they are at talking.”

The most notable draft pick in the group from the President of the New England Patriots Foundation may be Kineavy, of South Boston, who formerly served the city and advised Mayor Menino for over two decades. Though Kineavy has been out of the political game for some time now, he had a major impact on city government during his time as chief of policy and planning and director of the Mayor’s office of Neighborhood Services – putting together a vast network of connections across the city the campaign can lean on.

Since leaving City Hall, Kineavy has acted as the chief operating officer at the Cronin Group in South Boston but will now be working full-time for Kraft’s campaign.

Long-time City Hall observers noted Kineavy was a “seasoned veteran,” and that such a pick “sends a message” to those on the fence about the Kraft campaign’s direction and seriousness.

Kraft's team also includes education and equity advocate Ann Chinchilla DeGeorge, who previously worked with Councilor Julia Mejia and will now be Kraft’s campaign advisor. The Fort Hill resident also led Rachael Rollins’ campaign for Suffolk District Country District Attorney in 2018.

The Reporter caught up with Chinchilla DeGeorge at Kraft’s launch on Tuesday. She said that she is “definitely seeking some change,” adding, “I don’t feel heard or that some of these very important issues in the city, like education, are being addressed.”

That same morning, Kraft came out in support of a hybrid elected and appointed School Committee, something Chinchilla DeGeorge would like to see brought to life and has advocated for during her time with Mejia’s office.

“[Mayor Wu] wants to stay in control behind the curtain without relinquishing the power of the School Committee; we have no recourse in Boston Public Schools,” said Chinchilla DeGeorge, a mother of two school-aged boys. “(If) you have an issue (in BPS), you better hire a lawyer, get out, or put up with it. That's it.”

The two other members of the team include Senior Community Advisor Chanda Smart and Senior Communications Advisor Jacquetta Van Zandt.

Smart is currently the CEO of The OnyxGroup Development & Reality and serves on several local boards. She also recently served on Mayor Wu’s Rent Stabilization Advisory Board.

Van Zandt, who has former experience on Capitol Hill and in state and federal campaigns, is the VP of Engagement at The Partnership Inc. and host of ‘Politics and Prosecco’ podcast.

The campaign leadership announcement is the most recent move made by Kraft on the campaign trail. On Sunday, he will be a guest on “Keller at Large” on WBZ-TV at 8:30 a.m.
