City Ballet of Boston under the artistic direction of Tony Williams will stage “Dance Distinctive” over two days (April 12-13) at the Strand Theatre in Uphams Corner.
Billed as an “unforgettable celebration of dance, featuring six contemporary works including two premieres by choreographers Chu Ling and Lorraine Chapman,” the performances will take place at 3 p.m. on both days.
"Returning to the beautiful Strand Theatre is truly special for me,” said Williams. “My connection to this historic space goes back to my childhood, when it was a movie house. I later had the honor of performing on its stage in 1980, when it became a live theater. The Strand also holds a significant place in my journey as it was where my “Urban Nutcracker” premiered in 2001."
City Ballet of Boston is a non-profit organization that provides quality dance training to a diverse urban community allowing it to run an elite professional company. The company's scholarship training program, Boston City Youth Ballet, offers two levels for young dancers.
The introductory Relevé level (ages 8-11) is perfect for beginning students who are eager to learn. For more advanced dancers ages 12-20, the Développé and Allongé levels focus on both technique and performing artistry. The program is funded in part by the Carl & Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation.
Tickets start at $20 and are available at cityballetofboston.org.
