A local developer has proposed a six-story, 45-unit residential building at 1274 Massachusetts Ave. that would also have an entrance on Boston Street in Edward Everett Square.
The building's irregularly shaped lot stretches from the more industrial/commercial Mass. Ave. to residential Boston Street - developer Douglas George's says the building would blend in with both looks in part by stepping down from six stories along Mass. Ave. to four stories along Boston Street.
In a filing with the Boston Planning Department, George says he would tear down an existing three decker and clear what is now a parking lot for the new building, which would have a mix of one- and two-bedroom units.
The filing does not state if the units would be rented as apartments or sold as condos. It also does not specify the number of "affordable" units, but says the building will be "in compliance with the City of Boston Inclusionary Housing Policy," which requires at least 13% of units, or roughly six, be rented or sold as affordable.
