The third meeting of the Morrissey Boulevard-K Circle Commission is slated for this Thursday, May 2 at BC High from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Jake Wachman, state Sen. Nick Collins’ designee on the commission, urged the public to attend or log-in virtually.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shape the future of the Morrissey corridor and Dorchester waterfront,” Wachman said. “I encourage everyone to join us at the meeting to review the commission’s comprehensive plan, which includes both short-term and long-term improvements to transit, parks, and the shoreline.”

The commission’s aim is to approve a comprehensive plan to redesign Morrissey Boulevard and Kosciuszko Circle to make the corridor more climate resilient and safer for all users, and to develop more of a community feel.

According to a meeting announcement, the purpose of the upcoming meeting will be to “present an overview of multimodal transportation conditions, discuss the alternatives development and preliminary analysis, and provide updates on other key efforts within the corridor.”

Members from state government, MassDOT, City Hall, and the BPDA all serve as commissioners.

The public feedback process has been rife with pushback from neighbors. At the most recent meeting, at the end of January, attendees voiced objections to the fact that plans for K Circle were not yet part of the group’s deliberations. They also expressed concerns that the general progress the team had made up to that point would not be enough to be able to present the final design by the June 1 deadline, as outlined in legislation formulating the commission. Meeting the deadline would allow for the project to be submitted for budget recommendations by Gov. Maura Healey for the next budget cycle.

Furthermore, the meetings have not been well-publicized, which some neighbors and even commissioners believe are behind the reason for poor public turnout. The upcoming meeting was originally scheduled for April 23 and would be held at Cristo Rey Boston High School, announced with plenty of lead time, but was pushed to the new date and location just last week because of unforeseen “building maintenance” at Cristo Rey.

There is still one more meeting that is supposed to be held before the June 1 project deadline, but it has yet to be announced. More information about the project itself can be found at https://www.mass.gov/k-circle-morrissey-study
