Engineers work on K-Circle re-design

Three alternative plans are being eyed for the potential reconfiguration of Kosciuszko Circle — the notoriously-clogged traffic rotary near Columbia Point. Often referred to as “K-Circle,” the rotary is currently being studied by a team of engineers, according to a spokesperson for MassDOT. The study team is operating apart and separate from the Morrissey Boulevard Commission, which has been holding public meetings to re-design the boulevard over the last 10 months. However, the two teams are comparing notes on a bi-weekly basis and plan to integrate both projects down the line.

“The public’s input and partnership is valuable to the Morrissey Boulevard Commission as we continue to work to make improvements regarding how the Morrissey Boulevard corridor will be redesigned to support the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s transportation, housing, climate resiliency, and economic development goals,” read a statement from MassDOT. “We are confident that we will be able to develop actionable, short and long-term improvements for the corridor and adjacent neighborhoods.”

Potential fixes for K-Circle specifically are likely to be presented to the community in early 2025. The three “fixes” now being contemplated include signalized intersections, an updated round-a-bout, or a diverging diamond interchange – a rarity in Massachusetts that includes a double crossover.
