At approximately 2:55 p.m. on Monday, a school bus went up in flames in the breakdown lane heading northbound on the Southeast Expressway near Savin Hill.

WCVB-TV reports that the bus was chartered for a field trip from the Josiah Quincy Upper School, a BPS school.

There have been no reports of injuries. All of the students evacuated safely and were transported from the scene on a different bus.

The flames began at the front of the bus and engulfed the entire vehicle within minutes. As black smoke rose above the formerly yellow bus and spewed toward the right of Interstate 93, sirens could be heard throughout the neighborhood.

Fire trucks, police cars, and ambulances arrived at the scene and have since extinguished the fire.

The bus was towed from the scene around 4 pm.
