Boston firefighters responded to 679-683 Columbia Road in Edward Everett Square around 6:50 a.m. on Sunday for what quickly turned into a two-alarm fire.
Arriving firefighters saw heavy flames from the second floor and attic of the wooden, unoccupied building, the Boston Fire Department reports.
The department reports firefighters began attacking the fire from all four sides and from the roof of a neighboring house to keep the fire from spreading.
Part of the roof collapsed, and firefighters had to be careful to avoid getting hit by any of "the numerous slate tiles flying off the roof."
No injuries were reported.
