Senior program at Mildred Avenue celebrates Father’s Day in Mattapan

Relaxing in the “Man Cave” created for participants to celebrate Father’s Day were Arthur Griffeth, Van Straughter, Charles Knight, and Patrick Wallace. Sitting were Mildred Avenue Director Jeff Jackson and Sam Hutchinson.

The Mildred Avenue Senior Citizen drop-in program hailed all the fathers that come to the center, as well as their significant others, in celebrating Father’s Day last Thursday (June 22).

While the women participants enjoyed a meal together in the dining room, the men were treated to a private “Man Cave” with shrimp and grits, sandwiches, snacks, comfortable couches, and a replay of the Orange Bowl college football game on television.
Afterward, the men were served a full lunch and line dancing was the featured activity.

The Mildred Avenue senior program is part of the Boston Center for Youth and Families (BCYF). It hosts seniors from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, with special events and parties often on the agenda as well. The program is also hosting specialized classes through the summer geared to senior citizens.
