The aging spray deck in the Neponset Landing II Park on Hilltop Street is set to be rehabilitated, according to the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

The site has a rubber surface that is in poor shape, and some of the spray features are broken. The public agency believes that the water supply piping is failing, and the overall site is undersized, given the demand in the neighborhood.

The 2,700-square-foot spray deck could be overhauled within its current footprint, with new surfacing, spray features and piping, agency officials said in a presentation unveiled at a public meeting last week. Alternatives included doubling the size of the deck and adding additional shade and benches or increasing the deck to 7,300 square feet.

DCR officials are leaning toward the middle plan, with the deck at 6,000 square feet.

Work will likely commence after season’s end, which runs from May 27 to Sept. 17 this year. The deck is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
