Dorchester man dies in wrong-way car crash in Washington, DC, police say

The Metropolitan PC Department in Washington reports Mohammed Islam, 21, of Dorchester died after he crossed the center lines on a DC street, hit two other cars on the other side, one head on, then was hit by an SUV coming the other way.

Islam was driving a Tesla Model 3 with four passengers when he crossed onto the other side of Connecticut Avenue NW around 7:50 a.m. on Feb. 21, police say: "The Tesla crossed the solid-double yellow lines into the northbound lane of travel, struck a 2018 Toyota C-HR, and then struck a 2010 Mercedes-Benz ML-350, head-on. A 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, that was also traveling northbound, then struck the passenger side of the Tesla.

"DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the occupants of the Tesla, the driver of the Toyota, and the driver of the Mercedes to area hospitals for treatment of injuries."

Islam died Sunday, five days after the crash, police say.
