Andrea Campbell, who represented Dorchester and Mattapan on the City Council, heads into the general election for attorney general as the Democratic nominee.

The Associated Press projected that Campbell had the votes to beat out labor attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan. Former Obama administration official Quentin Palfrey was also on the ballot, but he dropped out last week and endorsed Campbell.

Campbell snagged the endorsement of Maura Healey, whose decision to run for governor opened up the attorney general's seat she's held since winning it in the 2014 election cycle.

Campbell, a Mattapan resident, is set to face Jay McMahon, the Republican nominee who also ran against Healey in 2018, in November.

Campbell, who also served as deputy general counsel to Gov. Deval Patrick, toppled longtime City Councillor Charles Yancey in 2015. She went on to serve as City Council president, the first African-American woman to serve in the job. Campbell later launched a mayoral campaign, coming in third place behind Michelle Wu and Annissa Essaibi George in the 2021 preliminary to replace Marty Walsh.
